Performer FAQs

You can perform anything you want as long as it’s appropriate! While many of our members perform classical music, we’d love to have a range of pieces from different styles and time periods.

We don’t have a strict time limit for individual repertoire—in the past, members’ performances have lasted anywhere from 2 minutes to 20+ minutes long. We only ask that you remain mindful of other performers, and we will let you know if your choice of repertoire goes overtime!

We request that you dress in semi-formal or formal clothes when performing at our concerts. After all, we want to make a good impression!

Other than that, you should bring your sheet music and a music stand if you need it, as well as anything else you might require to perform (instrument, speaker, etc.). While you may be able to borrow a music stand from another performer, we can’t promise that this will always be the case. Most importantly, bring a positive attitude and a passion to share your music!

We usually ask performers to arrive at least 10 minutes before a concert is scheduled to begin, but you can arrive even earlier if you’d like! This way, you have plenty of time to warm up, try out the piano (if you’re a pianist), and set up anything you need.

If you know ahead of time that you will be late, please let us know so we can put you later in the program.

Members may request volunteer hours for 2x the length of the concert (e.g. if a concert was 1 hour long, it would count for 2 volunteer hours). Extra responsibilities such as taking photos, hosting, or any management work will go towards additional hours.

To verify hours, appoint Courtney Tam (courtneyhtam@gmail.com) as an advisor. If you’re unsure how many hours you should be requesting, ask us and we can help!

You don’t have to, but you definitely can! Our concert host will announce your name, instrument, and repertoire before your turn to perform. Once you walk up, you’re welcome to elaborate on your piece by mentioning any background info, additional insights, personal connections, etc.—this can make your performance more engaging for anyone in the audience! Plus, remember to bow before and after you perform.

If you’re 13 or older, you can join our Discord server here!

Absolutely! We always need someone to take photos, so let us know before the concert if you’re willing to help out. You can also submit articles for us to post in our Education section or help host an event to give our normal hosts a break!

Organizer FAQs

Nope! Our senior home concerts are completely free. All you need to do is let your residents know when we’ll be coming!

Our concerts typically have anywhere from 5–9 performers playing a variety of instruments, including the piano. We will send you a finalized program up to a week before the concert date. Expect parents to come as well!
